The function of the Traffic Safety Unit is to provide a safe driving environment for the citizens of Lincoln County. The deputies assigned to this unit utilize 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycles as well as patrol vehicles to accomplish their mission. The traffic officers receive advanced training in DWI detection and investigation and accident investigation. They are also certified as Drug Recogniton Experts. These officers have been recognized for their professionalism by representing Lincoln County in parades and other events outside of the County.

The traffic safety unit receives several grants each year to do enhanced enforcement operations in high-crash-corridors throughout the County. They also possess and utilize a sophisticated electronic traffic counter that not only calculates amount of traffic at a given location but also how fast the traffic is flowing. These officers are also responsible for conducting DWI checkpoints throughout the year.
