On Wednesday September 19, 2012, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office put three Lincoln County Schools on lock down. The schools were Troy Buchanan High School, Troy Middle School, and New Horizons High School all in the Troy R-3 School District.
At approximately 12:45 this afternoon, A Troy R-3 School Resource Officer was informed by a female student at New Horizons High School that her boyfriend had made threats to kill his own family and then bring multiple guns to Troy Buchanan High School and open fire. The suspect had shown his girlfriend three loaded handguns and an assault rifle in which he intended on using. These weapons were reportedly in one of two vehicles he was driving at the time, a green jeep or a white pick-up truck. He even named specific kids at the high school he was going to shoot according to his girlfriend. She informed the Deputy that the suspect told her he was going to be at New Horizons High School at 1pm.
The information was immediately dispatched to all surrounding agencies. Sheriff Mike Krigbaum contacted the Troy R-3 School District Assistant Superintendent and requested a lock down of the three schools. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Troy City Police Officers converged on both New Horizons High School and Troy Buchanan High School. A search of both schools was conducted to ensure the suspect was not at either location.
At approximately 2pm, the suspect was finally contacted by telephone and advised to turn himself in. He was later taken in to custody near the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
At this time the incident is under investigation. No charges have been filed and no names are being released.
